DAKOTA reading at Playhouse 46

DAKOTA reading at Playhouse 46, with Jason Nuzzo, Millie Gibbons, LeeAnne Hutchison, Ian Lithgow, and Jolie Cloutier, directed by Lisa Milinazzo.

Dear friends,

With deepest thanks to all the collaborators I’ve had the privilege of working with, here’s the latest on the writing front:

THEATER NEWS

  • My newest play is BRING YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF TO WORK DAY, written thanks to a commission from Kathleen McGee Treat. Its first reading was in May 2023 at The Bechdel Group.
  • DAKOTA DU NORD (a.k.a. my Dakota play) had a reading at the renovated off-Broadway theater Playhouse 46 in March 2023. A great cast brought it to life, directed by Lisa Milinazzo. The play was developed by Nancy Manocherian's the cell theatre, with a reading directed by Kira Simring in 2020 (right before lockdown).
  • I was a contributing writer for BUTTERFLY EFFECT NYC, produced by Working Theater and Nomad Theatrical Co., an outdoor immersive theatrical production. I developed the original character of Oscar—performed by Josh Tyson—a piano tuner haunted by memories of love and loss in Hell's Kitchen. The show was conceived and directed by Grant Neale.
  • FILM & TV UPDATE

  • CinemastreetCinemaStreet named my short screenplay THE CIVILIAN TEST a semi-finalist in its Women’s Short Screenplay Competition 2022. Thank you, CinemaStreet!
  • Wrote the script for MY POST-PRODUCTION WORLD, a microfilm produced by Nomad Theatrical. Directed by Grant Neal, starring Ravin Patterson, you can watch it on my YouTube channel.
  • ADVOCACY

  • An unforgettable event: It Begins With a Word: Dramatists in Times Square. Actors LeeAnne Hutchison and Grant Neale read a scene from my new play CHAPTER 3000, and they knocked it out of the park!
  • I’m a proud member of HonorRoll!—an advocacy of female-identifying playwrights over 40.
  • ESSAYS

  • Once in a while, an essay lands on my lap. Here are two that were published during the pandemic. This one (Playwrights’ Center) offers tools for creating your own writing retreat when you’re not able to get away. This essay (The Penmen Review) is a reflection on the surreal days of 2020.
  • LOVE LETTERS

  • The New York Society Library asked me to lead a writing workshop for its Goodhue Members in 2021. We wrote love letters to Sarah Parker Goodhue (1828-1917), who left her treasures to the library and thus made so many things possible for this quiet haven for writers and readers.
